nourish yourself

Chinese Dietary Therapy follows the basic laws of cosmic harmony and is classically considered the ultimate medicine to regain one's balance physiologically, mentally and even spiritually. This is the foundation for all other treatments. Ideally, the food choices we make at each meal including the type, quality and preparation is what sustains and nourishes us throughout the day. When we consciously or unconsciously eat foods that offer us little or no nutritional support, we experience the consequences of those decisions at every level. At one time or another we have all likely experienced a caffeine rush, a sugar crash, irregular eating, poor food combinations, or even simply overeating. When such choices are made over a long period of time, we are changed and pathologies manifest in body and mind. Chinese Dietary Therapy is not about "diet" per se, it is about utilizing nutrition to restore balance in our very being. This balance is unique for each person.

Nutrition = Food + Digestion.  Chinese Dietary Therapy classifies foods and disease according to simple observable patterns. For example, generally one eats cooling foods for hot or inflammatory conditions while warming foods are better for individuals who feel cold. Detoxifying foods are best for those carrying excess toxins or building foods are the best choice for people with deficient conditions. Women require particular nutritional support throughout their childbearing years, just as all of us benefit from eating according to the seasons as well as our life cycle. Stress affects each of us differently and requires our nutritional attention.  Eating a meal upset, late at night unconsciously watching television or working at a computer will not give us ideal nutrition no matter how high quality the food.  It is critical to remember how we eat is just as important as what we eat.  We need to understand our digestive capacity, our intention towards nourishment, and our attention to the origins of our food.

It is my goal to heighten your understanding and respect for food as a powerful healing medicine and to give you the tools so you can make informed choices. Chinese Dietary Therapy is included in all your acupuncture sessions. Specific recommendations based on your individual needs according to the principles of Chinese Medicine are discussed. I look forward to working with you!
